1,2,3-Thiadiazoles are a group of heterocycles whose derivatives are important in industry, medicine, and agriculture. This volume provides a complete treatment of this group of heterocycles with an emphasis on syntheses, structural data, properties, reactions, and applications.
The first edition of Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry was published in 1990 and very well received. Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry II is much more than a simple updating of the contents of the first edition. Completely revised and expanded, this new edition has been refocused to reflect the significant developments and changes over the past decade in genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, combinatorial chemistry, high-throughput screening and pharmacology, and more. The content comprises the most up-to-date, authoritative and comprehensive reference text on contemporary medicinal chemistry and drug research, covering major therapeutic classes and targets, research strategy and organisation, high-throughput technologies, computer-assisted design, ADME and selected case histories. It is this coverage of the strategy, technologies, principles and applications of medicinal chemistry in a single work that will make Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry II a unique work of reference and a single point of entry to the literature for pharmaceutical and biotechnology scientists of all disciplines and for many industry executives as well.Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry II will be available online in 2007 via the proven platform ScienceDirect providing the user with enhanced features such as cross-referencing and dynamic linking. * Comprehensively reviews - for the first time in one single work - the strategies, technologies, principles and applications of modern medicinal chemistry * Provides a global and current perspective of today's drug discovery process and discusses the major therapeutic classes and targets * Includes a unique collection of case studies and personal assays reviewing the discovery and development of key drugs
British chemistry has traditionally been depicted as a solely male endeavour. However, this perspective is untrue: the allure of chemistry has attracted women since the earliest times. Despite the barriers placed in their path, women studied academic chemistry from the 1880s onwards and made interesting or significant contributions to their fields, yet they are virtually absent from historical records.Comprising a unique set of biographies of 141 of the 896 known women chemists from 1880 to 1949, this work attempts to address the imbalance by showcasing the determination of these women to survive and flourish in an environment dominated by men. Individual biographical accounts interspersed with contemporary quotes describe how women overcame the barriers of secondary and tertiary education, and of admission to professional societies. Although these women are lost to historical records, they are brought together here for the first time to show that a vibrant culture of female chemists did indeed exist in Britain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Designed as a benchtop tool, the series includes detailed and reliable experimental procedures for the preparation of common but imp ortant starting compounds, organized according to the periodic table. Properties of the compounds and additional references are also provided. In most cases, no strict borderline has been drawn between inorganic and organometallic compounds. Instead, the material is conveniently presented so that for every group of elements, the various aspects of the chemistry are combined. Several hundred in ternational specialists with established expertise in their respective fields have contributed, resulting in proven and reliable pre parations. In view of the enormous growth of organometallic chemistry, Synthetic Methods of Organometallic and Inorganic Chemistry p rovides you with a balanced compilation of carefully selected and representative examples for all classes of compounds. // The conte nt of this e-book was originally published in 1996.
